I love the simulation genre. However, modern sim games are extremely poor. There are the odd exceptions, such as Train Sim World and Microsoft Flight Sim, but other than that, many of the games are rushed out, dated, and full of bugs. Car Driving School Simulator, unfortunately, looks like it belongs to the 90s. Furthermore, the cars handle like shit, and the audio is painful. Accordingly, it is rough as hell!

Developer BoomBit has delivered a turd of a title that has been rolled in the most heinous glitter. Additionally, every mechanic, level, and idea is underwhelming and half-assed. Consequently, playing it is tedious and much of the action is dull, repetitive, and infuriating.

Car Driving School Simulator has no story.

Sim games do not require a story. However, a little bit of depth goes a long way. I fully expected Car Driving School Simulator to have a central plot and plenty of unique missions. After all, the player has to be either the student or the teacher, surely? Well, I have no idea which role I’m playing, as there are no quests and limited guidance.

The aim of the game is simple. Purchase a car, select a level, and get the car moving. There is a blue light that highlights your path, along with numerous standard road signs and safety equipment to observe. If you run a red light, skip a stop sign, fail to use your turn signals, or cause an accident, you will lose points. Alternatively, if you drive like a pro, you earn points and money.

XP, cash, and shallow progression.

There are 9 cities to explore and 12 levels per city. Furthermore, there is a free mode if you wish to drive aimlessly around your favourite location. This option wasn’t fun as you gained no cash, no XP, and there was nothing to do. On top of this, the XP and character progression make no impact on your skills. Subsequently, it is another pointless exercise.

The only item that makes a bit of difference is the cash. This is used to buy cars and unlock each city. The cars, buses, and towing vehicles add a few unique layers as they all have different properties, and some are faster than others. However, this doesn’t impact the action too much and unlocking every car is tedious at best.

Car Driving School Simulator looks and sounds awful.

I don’t usually mind poor graphics as long as the action is good. Sadly, Car Driving School Simulator looks, sounds, and plays horribly. The graphics are blocky, ugly, and gaudy. Moreover, the animation is sluggish, and driving the car from a first-person perspective is dangerous and nauseating. Alongside this, the engines and ambient sounds are terrible. The audio is horrible to hear, and the constant revving of your engine will give you a headache.

The control system is simple to master, and the UI is relatively straightforward and clean. However, the car handles like crap. This is made much worse when NPC cars drive in your path and you try to move the car in any way, shape, or form. Sadly, the controls are too sensitive, and this was problematic. All of these issues ensure that you won’t come back for more. There are over 100 levels to experience, and each one is as painful as the last. As such, this has limited replay value and longevity.

Car Driving School Simulator should have been better.

Car Driving School Simulator disappointed me. I was hoping for a business sim with interesting driving mechanics and the ability to improve my driving skills. Instead, every element of this lowly sim experience was dire. As such, it is rubbish and I won’t be recommending it. However, if you like wasting your money, you can grab a copy from the Xbox Store.
