Mobile phone games are extremely popular. However, I’m not sure they work particularly well on console. They are normally too shallow and over in a flash. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened when I attempted to tackle Bus Stop Shuffle. This £2.09 recent release promised to test me with fun action and complex puzzles. Moreover, it offers a relaxed but testing atmosphere. Disappointingly, I finished it in under 15 minutes, and I was rarely tested. The result is a game that is perfect if you want an easy achievement without thinking.

Webnetic s. r. o has created this colourful indie game. It is a single-player title that will not test children, let alone adults. This was unfortunate, as I wanted to test my grey matter for a few hours. Instead, I got a bit of a damp squib that could have been better. I thought, maybe it’s just me, maybe my kids will enjoy it. Let’s just say, they dropped the controller and went back to Roblox in record fashion.

Bus Stop Shuffle has no story and no depth!

Bus Stop Shuffle has no plot, and quite frankly, it doesn’t need one. The premise is pretty simple, and this is where it should shine. A group of people are standing at a bus stop. Each one is wearing a different coloured top, and they can only board the bus that matches their clothing. There are 7 spaces where would-be passengers can wait. These spaces can be used to move each passenger from the holding pen. If a path is blocked, you must create an opening and release the enclosed passengers.

In theory, this should create a complex game of chess and forward thinking. However, many of the stages are far too easy. Had the developer incorporated more obstacles, in-game events, or fewer waiting spaces, Bus Stop Shuffle would have thrived as a consequence. Alternatively, a time limit or movement counter would have created a testing experience for older and more advanced players. Sadly, none of these things were included, and the gameplay feels very shallow and light.

Although I sound quite negative, there are some positives. If you love to complete games and enhance your Gamerscore/trophies, this is the game for you. Additionally, there is the odd curveball that makes you think. This was rare, but these stages were my favourite. Moreover, the levels where there was a little trial and error were a success. Accordingly, I wish the developer had stuck to this formula.

Bus Stop Shuffle is basic but colourful.

Bus Stop Shuffle uses a fixed screen perspective to minimise fuss and keep things simple. This was a good design choice as it helps you to plan your moves. On top of this, the vibrant colour palette, basic models, and airy atmosphere make this rudimentary but pleasant to the eye. Alongside this, the audio is lighthearted and wholesome. Although it is repetitive, I like the upbeat nature, and it isn’t offensive or annoying.

The control system couldn’t have been easier. You use the left analogue stick and the “A button”, and that is it. This simple approach works well with the core mechanics as it allows you to fly through the stages. If you love easy games, you’ll play every stage on offer. I got to around level 60 and didn’t need to see any more. Moreover, my short playtime was enough to unlock each of the 70 achievements on offer.

Bus Stop Shuffle isn’t great, but it’ll appeal to completionists.

Bus Stop Shuffle could have been much better, but it’ll appeal to completionists. Although the action is straightforward and lacks depth, it scratches an itch if you desire to complete a simple puzzle experience. Additionally, I like the vibrant graphics and wholesome audio. Accordingly, though it didn’t appeal to me, it is inexpensive and great for a simple 1000G, and you can buy a copy from the Xbox store!
