Sugarbound 2 tells the story of master pâtissière Chloé Fondant who needs to go back to Sugarbound in order to collect food, healthier items this time, to solve another human kingdom’s food shortage crisis because Chloé’s first successful hunt was so successful.

Sugarbound 2 is a straight forward, simplistic 2D action platformer. Go from start to finish killing enemies standing in your way and collect all the food items you can find. Our little master pâtissière can thankfully defend herself with a handful of utensils.
You’ll have access a spatula for close quarter combat, a throwing knife, a baguette that acts like a boomerang or a frying pan that you can throw in an arc. As expected, you cannot carry more than one weapon at once. Chloé can only jump and run; nothing else.

The game looks fine. Nothing wrong with this food inspired theme. However, there’s a lack of decor variety as all levels use the same color palette. Enemy design is also very limited; half way through the game, it stops introducing new enemies. Levels can take between 10 seconds and 5 minutes to complete. On the audio side of things, it’s very limited. The same tune loops in over and over from start to finish of the game. It’s a nice little score, but it gets old quick.
The game is not without faults. There’s a few detection issues peppered here and there. Even when you don’t touch spikes, if you’re inches away, you’ll take damage. Also some enemies require a specific hit in on the perfect pixel; especially when using the knife.

Sugarbound 2 is a fun albeit short platforming experience. Gameplay is pretty simplistic and straightfoward. The game has a surprisingly variety of utensils, i.e. weapons, each functioning uniquely. While the game does have a few hit detection issues, once you’ve noticed the patterns, it doesn’t hinder the game all that much. It’s also a very easy 1000Gs. If you’re looking for a quick one or introduce your kids to gaming, Sugarbound 2 is definitely a fun experience.
