With less than a month to go before Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land rolls onto Steam and the Game Boy Color, creative-first publisher Mega Cat Studios and indie developer Exquisite Laundry Pet are thrilled to share the latest episode in the game’s ongoing devblog series.

While the previous installment delved into Gumball’s combat system—built around competitive trick-or-treating—this new episode turns its focus toward the RPG’s narrative evolution and overall structure. In the video, developer Adam Lewis Graff discusses how the game’s story took shape organically, following Gumball’s journey from the quiet town of Corndale to the eerie shores of Vampire’s Landing as he searches for the mysterious Echolocator and a way back home.

The devblog also introduces several core gameplay concepts that reinforce the game’s classic RPG roots, including a multi-stage quest to collect seven hallowed patches needed to restore the power of a magical scarecrow. Alongside these story beats, viewers will catch glimpses of character designs, environments, and mechanics that highlight unique elements of this love letter to fan-favorite classics like Earthbound, Undertale, and the RPGs of the Game Boy Color era.
