Capcom unsheathed a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword at the Summer Game Fest live showcase. The latest footage reveals formidable new foes, a surreal setting, and combat mechanics for the dark fantasy swordplay action game where a samurai armed with a mystical artifact battles monstrosities from the underworld.
New elements debuted in the new trailer include:
- A Legendary Rival – In Onimusha: Way of the Sword, players can look forward to locking blades with a master swordsman from the pages of Japanese history. The new trailer shows protagonist Miyamoto Musashi duelling his fated rival, Sasaki Ganryu, in Kyoto’s iconic temple, Kiyomizu-dera. Also armed with an Oni Gauntlet, Ganryu will play a key role in this supernatural story where fabled warriors collide.
- New Genma to Battle – Beyond his rival, Musashi will face demonic Genma ranging from the soul-stealing Kubi Akari to the rampaging Daidara, a towering Genma with an insatiable hunger to devour everything in its way. In the footage, Musashi can be seen clashing with Daidara and its massive bludgeon in a previously unseen locale.
- A Surreal New Stage – The new battleground on display is a dreamlike setting adorned with ruins and rock formations that float in the sky. Musashi can also be seen summoning new paths forward that seem to materialise out of thin air, showcasing a unique way to explore this otherworldly realm.
- A Slice of Combat – Throughout his battles, Musashi carves through his enemies using a variety of exhilarating techniques like powerful “Issen” maneuvers, which unleash devastating critical strikes just before enemies attack. The high-impact action also shared a sneak peek at a new weapon resembling twin hammers, which can deliver crushing blows powerful enough to shatter the very air.
- A Mysterious Figure – The trailer’s final moments also provided a glimpse of an enigmatic woman who seemed to emerge from the glow of Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet. Who could this possibly be?
