Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is the non VR port version of Alien: Rogue Incursion adapted for consoles whose events take place between the Alien and Aliens films. The game features Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks sent to investigate a distress call on the remote planet Purda only to realize that the planet has been taken over by Xenomorphs.

Given its VR origins, Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is a first person survival horror game. You’ll navigate through a handful of areas of the planet’s base such as a garage and administration office; all the while being hunted by an army of Xenomorphs. You’ll a limited arsenal of weaponry; pistol, pulse rifle and a shotgun. Latter in the game, grenades will come in handy when surrounded by enemies.

You’ll also pick up a nifty little accessory that will allow you to open up doors or cabinets welded shut allowing you to progress further and find resources such as ammo or health items. You also have a touchpad that you’ll connect to specific workstations to either read email messages to discover the lore of the game or solve basic puzzles.

Thankfully, for a breather, you’ll find Panic rooms which serves as save rooms. The little addendum is that you cannot just walking into it. Given the areas were damaged, some areas don’t have enough power to power up doors. You’ll need to find the connector box, usually next to the door, and use a pair of pliers to move around connectors to send power to the door. Keep in mind, enemies can still jump you while doing this so you need to act fast.

The game looks great; the areas are dark and creepy; very atmospheric. The developer did a great job with the lightning with the dimly/barely lit areas. Thankfully, you have a flashlight, but there’s nothing more surprising seeing a slight movement within your light and wondering where the Xenomorph is and where it’s going to be coming from. The audio is top-notch. When exploring you’ll hear soundbytes and noises keeping you on your toes but if you’re about to be attacked, there’s a tense score that ramps up until you clear the room. Voiceover work is fine, nothing special as you mostly interact with A.I. robots.

The game does have a few nuisances. The first being is that it’s very short; I can understand that a VR game won’t take 20 hours to finish, but a bit of added padding/extra areas could’ve been beneficial. And I can understand the VR origin, but for console players, QTEs are unnecessary and useless. I don’t need to alternate between LT and RT to cross bars. It also ends on a cliffhanger; Part 2 has been in development since December 2024 so we might be a few years off of the conclusion and hopefully they release both the VR and non VR versions at the same time. There’s also no replay value unless you want to challenge other difficulty levels.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is a fun and very tense first person shooter. Unlike typical horror games like Resident Evil or more recently Cronos: The New Dawn where you see enemies walking towards you, Xenomorphs come from all corners of a room which adds a layer of tension. However, it is short and features a bit of backtracking. That being said, if you can overlook these quirks, Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is absolutely worth it.
