Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers is a straight forward racing affair; it’s the player versus the timer. You need to clear all checkpoints of all 30 races to reach the finish line before the timer runs out otherwise you lose. The maps also have giant arrows to point you in the right direction, but don’t expect them to act as a wall if you miss your turn.
As with any racer, you can accelerate, brake and use a handbrake for those sharp turns. And that’s it. Can’t pull any tricks; just ride, follow the arrows and hit each checkpoint. You can also unlock two more bikes, by earning money, which you’d expect to earn by completing the levels. But you don’t.
If you have the tolerance to get through each of the 30 races of challenge, you can unlock a Free mode where you can ride freely through the environment, jumping ramps and find collectibles. On the upside, it’s an easy 2000Gs. Complete the first 15 races and you’re done.
The game looks fine; very generic. Nothing really special. The levels are bland; no detail. They were going for a 32bit visual, but I’ve seen better looking 16-bit games. It does look like a college school project. On the audio side of things, it’s ska-like generic stock tune that loops over and over until you either go nuts or drown it out.
The game does have a major issue; for some reason, the checkpoint markers don’t always appear. I had to try the first race 10 times and every time 2-3 of the markers, toward the latter end of the race, were just… missing. I was following the arrows, it lead me to the finish line, but I didn’t finish, because I skipped checkpoints… that I couldn’t see. Also sometimes, if you miss a (n invisible) checkpoint marker, the game will drop you back 1-2 checkpoints back losing precious time. The lack of a mini-map that shows the markers’ position is also a problem.
Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers feels like a generic demo or alpha version of a game. The map is generic, control is wonky, no replay value. Despite looking for a game to appeal to younger gamers, chances are they’ll even give up or throw a fit during the first race. There are way better games similar this. This is an easy pass. Don’t waste your time and money.
