If there is even a sniff of an auto-shooter with similar vibes to titles like Vampire Survivors and the huge catalogue of titles in the genre today, I’m there. Rage Swarm from QubicGames is currently available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and also features Xbox Play Anywhere. Giving you the flexibility to play on console, PC, through the Xbox app or even with a handheld device.

Gameplay
Rage Swarm, on the face of it, looks like a twin-stick shooter at first glance, but all the shooting is automatic. You’re responsible for navigating your character throughout the linear levels. Using your positioning, you’ll fend off enemies, dodge gunfire and strategically dispose of your foes in the smartest way you possibly can. Whilst it sounds a little boring on paper, having all the firing done for you, there is a little depth in the progression and levelling.
Enemies appear on screen, and you’ll need to utilise cover to dodge their weaponry whilst counteracting with your own. Working through the levels will grant you experience, which will level you up alongside gold and loot chests. The better your stats, the more you can upgrade and unlock and in turn, become more powerful.
Boss encounters aren’t overly challenging, really, and I actually found more difficulty in dealing with some of the enemy waves. What is great, though, is that over time you’ll find different strategies in attack, and as you unlock more, the gameplay does start to feel a little more varied.

Visuals & Audio
Visually, Rage Swarm has that typical “mobile phone” game look. I have to say, though, it looks better than some indie games out there. Whilst it is comparable to a game in Roblox, it is fun to play, and that’s all that matters. For the price of less than a pint of beer, you shouldn’t be expecting groundbreaking visuals. Levels vary, there are multiple enemy types, and the different weapon types make for spontaneous moments on screen. Audio design is, as you’d expect from a game of this calibre, nothing special and gets the job done.

Final Thoughts
Rage Swarm is clearly a port from mobile devices to consoles. It’s a competent port which works well on Xbox; there are still grindy elements that are prominent from the transition. That said, if you’re someone who loves auto-shooter games that are pretty casual and not too serious, then you may find fun here. There is a good amount of content and potential replayability for the very low cost of £4.19. If you fancy it for that bargain price, you can pick up a copy on Xbox HERE!
