Ramp Car Racing is a straight forward physics based racing game where players need to reach the finish line as fast as possible all the while collecting as many coins as possible. Each track offers a different unique challenge and the difficulty progresses smoothly the further you get. Some tracks are pretty straight forward while others will require a bit of timing.
Along with the simplistic tracks, other will require players to either move around mid-air in order to jump in a specific area whereas other circumstances will require players to time their drive and subsequent jump as you’re required to jump between train wagons. You can also go all Tony Hawk and pull off a few flips in mid-air with enough air. Pulling off tricks will reward players with extra coins.
Each track will have a set amount of coins to collect. If you collect them all and finish under the required time, you’ll earn five stars. This is a nice way to encourage players to replay the game; get all stars. Coins can be used to upgrade parts of your ride such as engine and suspension. For some diversity, you’ll sometimes race against another car or train. As you complete levels and collect stars, you’ll unlock new areas to race around in and new game modes such as race and cop chase.
The game looks good; nothing really odd here. The levels are bright and colorful, and each unlockable area has its own unique theme for some environmental diversity. The soundtrack is pretty generic stock music. The engine sound also drowns out the music more often than not.
The game does have a few issues despite its limited gameplay appeal. There’s little to no variety in terms of gameplay. The tracks and challenge change but nothing really evolves. Also the camera angle can be a pain in the butt for certain stunts such as the in-between wagon jumps; making it easy to mis-time jumps.
Ramp Car Racing is a fun and addictive little palette cleanser. The controls are solid, the physics are intuitive and easy to pick up and play. You can replay tracks with new rides, upgrade your favorite one and unlock new areas and game modes. But there isn’t much variety and the camera can be problematic at times. Perfect game to play in short bursts.
