Red Cape Knight tells the story of the titular hero who has been summoned by the King to step into the dark halls of the royal castle. The castle has been overrun by dangerous creatures. It’s up to our little hero, along with his trusty sword and magical cape to save the day.

Our hero, the Red Cape Knight, can beat up enemies with his sword, can jump and double jump over enemies, obstacles. Our tiny size protagonist can also dash in mid-air to avoid bigger gaps or moving hazards. Each of the level will feature a checkpoint to avoid having start a level all over again. Given this is a one hit death game, they do come in useful.
As you progressively make your way through the game’s 30 levels, they become progressively more challenging and treacherous. Also enemies become wiser and more dangerous; but still somewhat easy to kill as most of them simply require a single or two hits to kill. Also incredibly easy 1000Gs.

The game looks fine; nothing really special here. It’s a cutesy little 2D 16-bit action platformer. Each level has a unique hazardous design offering a decent challenge. Enemy design is fair but gets old quick given the game’s shortness. The soundtrack is a chiptune soundtrack sort of sounds like B-sides from older Legend of Zelda games; tunes that weren’t good enough to make it into the final game.
There’s nothing really wrong here except the fact that it feels shallow. You kinda wish for a bit more gameplay variety, like say maybe a nice little magic attack or a bow/arrow to complement your sword. Also the addition of bosses at every 10 levels would’ve been a nice change of pace.

If you’re looking for a quick gaming experience with an easy 1000Gs in between AAA experiences, Red Cape Knight is a nice, fun diversion that is fairly challenging. There are worst ways to spend £4.19. But it does feel shallow and there’s no reason to replay this; it’s a one and done.
