Visual novels aren’t for everyone. I get it, as the action can be slow, hard going, and some of the topics are a little risqué. However, if you love to lose yourself in a book, this genre is great fun. The characters, clean imagery, and generally balanced pacing is great to experience. Thankfully, Sacrifice for Sale follows many of these positive notions.

Developer Daniel Klautsch has created an original title that’ll appeal to many visual novel fans. Although there are plenty of endings, loads of words, and some enjoyable characters, it is remarkably short. Consequently, each playthrough takes around 30 minutes, if that. This makes it the ideal experience for gamers who are short on time.

Sacrifice for Sale tells a strange tale.

Strange visual novels are par for the course. Sacrifice for Sale is one of the weirder games I’ve tested, as the story is wild, simple, and full of twists and turns. Moreover, the key protagonists are hateful, loving, funny, and everything in between. Subsequently, you’ll go through an array of emotions.

The plot focuses on a vacuum salesman who accidentally knocks on the door of the strangest cult. The 2 cult members are paranoid that this salesman is more than he first appears. As such, they plan to sacrifice him to their gods. However, if you can make the right choices or stay silent, you may save your life and uncover the secrets of each person.

Original ideas.

Sacrifice for Sale is packed with original moments. Although branching storylines aren’t new, the way that this title incorporates them is wonderful to experience. Answering questions, selecting internal monologues, staying silent, or selecting actions deliver dynamic elements to the story.

As you progress, you’ll understand what needs to be done to get each cult member to side with you. Alternatively, maybe you can distract them enough to escape? Either way, you’ll witness different paths as you argue, flirt, lie, and beg your way out of the grips of death.

Sacrifice for Sale is simple but great.

Visually, Sacrifice for Sale is clean, simple, and wonderful to look at. Each of the characters has basic animation, and the use of rudimentary transitions helps to tell the weird and wonderful story. Additionally, there are signs of gore and cultist behaviour that work with the strange story. The audio reacts beautifully to the written words. This helps to add drama and depth to the plot. The sound effects won’t blow you away, but they help to add energy to the game.

The controls are as straightforward as you’d expect. Unlike other games in the genre, I couldn’t find an auto skip function. However, this didn’t matter as you fly through each conversation with ease. Additionally, any previously selected dialogue is greyed out to ensure you pick fresh options each time. This was great as it helps with replay value and longevity, and reduces the number of incorrect choices.

Sacrifice for Sale is a fun visual novel.

Sacrifice for Sale is a bit strange, but I love the odd animal-like and mythical cultist, the weird plot, and the excellent writing. Additionally, the original ideas were fun and worked incredibly well. Although I enjoy longer and more challenging visual novels, the short bursts make it ideal for gamers who are short of time. Accordingly, you should buy a copy from the Xbox store!
