Spring is in the air. Can you feel it? Sir Lovelot tells the story of our titular character looking for, what else, love as he goes from tower to tower, impressing cheeky damsels in order to conquer their hearts. Can you survive the hazardous areas and reach the damsel?

Sir Lovelot is a 2D action platformer where players a selection of gifts in each area in order to be able to ascend the level’s tower and reach the damsel. The game features 40 levels and the difficulty progressively increases as you progress through the game. Levels have various hazards such as buzzsaw, enemies and tentacles, just to name a few, looking to hinder your progress.

Thankfully, our little pint sized hero can shoot pellets to defend himself and kill enemies. He can also jump and double in order to get over large gaps, enemies or obstacles. Sir Lovelot can also jump on wall temporarily for a bit of respite in between jumping. Each level also has a set amount of hidden secrets that requires players to explore each level.

The game looks great; bright and colorful levels. Each level is well designed in terms of challenge and logic; they make sense. If that makes sense? There isn’t a single level that will make you go: How the hell am I supposed to get through this?. As mentioned each level, short in nature, has some hidden secrets for players to find. On the audio side of things, it sounds great, but the soundtrack is quite forgettable.

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with Sir Lovelot, it does feel a bit limited in terms of gameplay. Unless you want to beat your time for each level or you’re a completionist, there isn’t really any reason to replay thing game. The other addendum is that the protagonist is quite small and some hazards such as wall spikes can easily mesh with the background thus not seeing them when jumping around.

Sir Lovelot reminds me of a bit of Super Meat Boy, but easier and less hair pulling challenging. It’s a fun addictive little platformer that will have players go “one just more level” until they reach the end. While most gamers will make it a one and done, completionists will want to spend a few more rounds to find all coins and hiddens secrets (unless you’re a master gamer that finds everything on your first go). If you’re looking for a chill challenging game to cheer yourself up, Sir Lovelot is a great game to spend a few hours in.
