The medieval world just got a lot bigger, and more unpredictable for console players. Paradox Interactive and Room 8 Group have officially launched the major expansion Roads to Power alongside the Wandering Nobles event pack for Xbox Series X|S.

Starting today Crusader Kings III players can ditch the crown for the open road or dive into the complex bureaucracy of the Byzantine Empire.

The headlining feature of Roads to Power is the ability to play as a Landless Adventurer. For the first time on console, you aren’t tied to a specific castle or county. Instead, you can roam the medieval map as a mercenary or “problem solver,” fulfilling contracts and building a reputation across generations. Whether you choose to remain a free spirit or eventually settle down to claim a kingdom of your own, the path to power is now yours to forge.

Administrative Rule and the Byzantine Dream

For those who prefer the halls of power to the dusty trail, the expansion introduces a brand-new Administrative Government system. Inspired by the Byzantine Empire, this system moves away from traditional feudalism:

  • Imperial Bureaucracy: Use the new Influence System to climb the ranks, jockeying for governorships and seeking the Emperor’s favor.

  • The Family Estate: Even without land, your House maintains a permanent seat of power. Manage and upgrade your estate to build influence within the empire.

  • Succession Control: Use your hard-earned influence to sway the imperial succession, picking the next Caesar—or taking the Purple for yourself.

  • Byzantine Flavor: The update includes chariot racing, Orthodox-inspired music, and a host of new cosmetic assets, from throne rooms to UI skins.

New Horizons with ‘Wandering Nobles’

Launching alongside the major expansion is the Wandering Nobles event pack. This pack enriches the travel experience with a dedicated Wandering Lifestyle that offers three distinct paths:

  1. The Inspector: Landed lords can survey their realms for improvements, while landless characters specialize in their environment.

  2. The Wayfarer: Focus on reducing stress and building fame through wilderness hikes and exploration.

  3. The Voyager: A “tourist” lifestyle centered on learning new languages and visiting world monuments.

Whether you want to govern a complex empire through merit and intrigue or explore the world as a wandering sellsword, these updates offer a massive shift in how the game is played. Crusader Kings III: Roads to Power and Wandering Nobles are available for purchase and download now on the Xbox.
