The psychological horror continues to escalate in The Outlast Trials, as developer Red Barrels today deployed Season 6.1: Prime Time. Building directly on the heels of the recent Season 6: Project Judas expansion, this latest update jacks up the pressure on Murkoff Corporation’s unwilling test subjects with a chaotic new event, fresh challenges, and unpredictable threats.

Multiple Killers, Zero Safe Zones

The centerpiece of the update is the Prime Time Limited-Time Event, which introduces a ruthless mechanic known as “Prime Roulette.”

In standard gameplay, players (known as Reagents) typically navigate maps while avoiding a single major threat, or Prime Asset. The Prime Time event throws that predictability out the window. Multiple Prime Assets can now infiltrate the same Trial simultaneously, rotating in and out of the map unpredictably. The result is a relentless environment designed to keep players under constant, compounding pressure.

During the event, players will also be tasked with destroying defective television sets scattered throughout the maps to earn bonus rewards and unlock exclusive, limited-time cosmetic items.

New MK-Challenges Put Faith to the Test

Season 6.1 expands the game’s roster of twisted experiments with two brand-new MK-Challenges, pushing players into highly thematic, objective-based nightmares:

  • Win the Truth: A mind-bending challenge that tasks players with navigating a gauntlet of “screen-fed ignorance” and forced propaganda, forcing them to participate in a rigged game where defeat is violently punished.

  • Incinerate the Relic: A mission steeped in cult-like imagery where players must take on the dual roles of heretic and zealot, tracking down and destroying religious fabrications to buy their way out of the trial.

Extended “Routine Therapies” Looming

Looking beyond the immediate launch, Murkoff is also shaking up its endgame content. Responding to community feedback, Red Barrels announced it is extending the duration of its “Routine Therapies”—special gameplay modifiers that completely alter how a trial is played – to two weeks each, giving players more time to master the shifting conditions.

Two upcoming classified therapies were teased:

  • Mirror (June 16 – June 30): A deeply disorienting modifier where the player’s perspective is altered to actively mislead and confuse them.

  • Classified Variators (June 30 – July 14): A top-secret set of gameplay modifiers that Murkoff notes will require players to “adapt or die.”

The Outlast Trials Season 6.1 update is live now across all platforms. Full patch notes and balancing updates have been made available here.
