Speed Dates Summer Edition is, as the name implies, a virtual dating simulator where players will go on “dates” with a handful of women. It works as a process of elimination. You’ll first have to choose three women from the group with whom you’ll go on the first date. Once the first dates are done, you’ll need to eliminate one of the three. And after the second date, you need to decide the one you want for a final date.

Each date, you’ll have a “conversation” with each lady and have to choose from two or three conversational choices. More often than not, there’s a positive choice and a negative one; and obviously depending on which one you select, your date will go in the appropriate direction. There’s a myriad of ways each date can go depending on the choices you make.

One of the game’s strongest point is the replay value. Once you’ve cleared your first trio, you can start a new game and choose different women to see how things out and you can obviously replay through the same first three women by making vastly different conversational choices to see how well (or how wrong) things can go.

Given that this is basically an interactive movie, there’s nothing really to say. It’s real people. Except this sometimes felt more like an traveling commercial than anything else. Each woman has their own unique personality and conversational paths. The acting is questionable at best. And interactions as well. Giving air cheek kisses is certainly an odd choice.

So one of the problems here, in terms of gameplay, is that some conversations have three choices, but for some reason, the third choice, the one on the right, is not even selectable. Seems like someone missed this in QA… if there was even QA. Questionable performances and choppy editing in a lot of places.

Speed Dates Summer Edition is a cheesy, poorly acted softcore gaming “experience” that comes off as shovelware; feels like it was recorded over a weekend with an iPhone. It doesn’t offer the same quality as Ten Dates. It’s not as bad as Plumber don’t wear ties, but it has to be close. Even if you’re a fan of FMV genre, it’s hard to recommend this; unless you need a good laugh.
