Re:Re:Ghosted Review tells the story of a nameless hotel receptionist who needs to investigate a few rooms due to the lack of answers from the customers. Unfortunately, as he looks at each dead body from each room, he’s thrown into a short job interview before exploring a Backrooms like level inspired by the job.

Re:Re:Ghosted is a first person psychological horror experience where you explore a diverse selection of level each with their own objectives and puzzles. You can “run” (walk faster would be more appropriate), jump (for some reason) and duck. Early puzzles are pretty simple and straight forward; as long as you’ve explored the level in order to uncover the clues. While latter ones require are a bit of a brain teasers.
You’ll either need to find clues on how to solve specific puzzles or acquire usable items to use in order to move to the next step. As you complete puzzles, a ghost-like entities will appear and move through each area. While early levels (and the final one) are pretty simple, the difficulty increases progressively. The game is also a very one for those looking to increase their gamerscore.

The game offers a unique a feeling of unneasiness and a bit of disorientation. Each level is unique, tailored to the job of the person you find in the motel room. It does feel a bit disjointed but it adds to the feeling of stress. Each area is also inspired by backrooms designs, some moreso than others, as you try to navigate dim-lit levels.
The game’s main problem is that it’s so freaking dark. Despite having a flashlight, it won’t do much good. One of the latter levels is actually pitch black. So dark that I had to look up a walkthrough for that level to actually see where I was going. Oddly enough, in the video, most of the game was brighter; but not said level. There’s also a lack of game settings, so you can’t even adjust the visuals, unless you fiddle with your tv. On the audio side of things, it’s very minimalistic as with other backroom inspired games and also for jump scares to be impactful.

Re:Re:Ghosted is one of the best psychological horror games I’ve played in the last few years. It’s unique, unnerving and leaves a feeling of unneasiness when you finish it. It’s one of those rare games where I’m still thinking about the ending and makes you think. Puzzles are actually enjoyable to solve. Depending on your tv, some levels can be unnecessary dark and the lack of settings is a bit annoying. While it’s short, it does feel like the perfect length but still making you want more at the same time. Highly recommended.
