Publisher Critical Reflex announced today that Militsioner, the surrealist, Kafkaesque immersive simulator featuring a towering, town-sized authority figure, will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass in 2027. The title will also support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to access the game across console and PC at no additional cost.
Developed around a premise of unwarranted persecution, Militsioner places players in the shoes of an innocent citizen who has been abruptly arrested for an unknown crime. Trapped in a mysterious Soviet-inspired town, players must plan their escape while living under the constant gaze of the “Colossal Policeman”—a giant officer whose towering presence dominates the skyline and monitors the population’s every move.
According to Brand Manager Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau, the game forces players to weigh their morality against their survival. Escaping requires outwitting both the environment and the local townspeople, whose perceptions of the player dynamically shift based on previous actions.
Key features highlighted in the announcement include:
-
Dynamic Omnipresence: The town is actively watched by a giant AI-driven policeman who reacts to suspicious behaviour, movement, and town disruption in real time.
-
Non-Linear Escape Routes: Players can choose to steal, break into buildings, assist local residents, or navigate complex social networks to secure freedom.
-
Unconventional Interaction Systems: Beyond traditional stealth and bribery, players can attempt to build positive relationships with the local population—and can even attempt to romanticize or flirt with the Colossal Policeman himself to lower his guard.
-
Consequence-Driven World: The town remembers player behaviour. Choosing to commit actual felonies to escape an unjust arrest may ultimately prove the system’s accusations right.
While currently still in active development, Militsioner is scheduled to join the Xbox Game Pass catalogue on day one of its release next year.
