Hello and welcome to Dave’s X Life, a blog post detailing what I have been getting up to in the world of all things Xbox. This piece is inspired by my early Xbox years reading OXM (The Official Xbox Magazine) and other great magazines at the time such as Gamer.

One of my small pleasures in life is reading the morning paper with a cup of coffee, but I think that all started with reading gaming magazines, I use to pick one up on my way home from work from time to time, grab a cup of coffee and then just lounge on the sofa, reading page to page, gathering in all the latest info on anything Xbox related. These days everything is at your fingertips, due to mobile news and social media content.

For me, I still love to read, it’s just a shame that one of my go to items of comfort is no longer available to me. To be honest if there was a gaming magazine that covered all things Xbox, I’d buy it and read it. In a world of digital content, I do miss physical news and reviews from time to time, but such is the way of the digital world, even newspapers aren’t as popular as they use to be, and let’s face it – in a connected world, you have access to everything you want, when you want it, and if you miss something, you can bet your bottom dollar you will be told about it via social media.

I mentioned above that this blog piece is inspired by the gaming magazines, in truth its inspired by one of my all-time favourite gaming journalist’s Kirsten Kearny, otherwise known as Kitt Alpha. Kirsten detailed all her goings on in her gaming world, in a monthly article and it was highly entertaining read. Kirsten wrote about all press events, being invited to drive a tank, and even had some army training in the process, and of course there was plenty of chat about gaming, because everything was gaming related, even the driving a tank.

Now my X-Life might not be as entertaining, but it will hopefully help you to get to know me personally, and provide some reading material that holds some worth, sadly I won’t be driving any Tanks, but if anyone from Official Xbox reads this, I’m game.

What I’ve been up to

So, what have I been up to in the world of gaming on Xbox?

Well first things first, I’ve been hard at work with the Completexbox team in hopefully putting something together that is really special, and that will add something amazing to this great publication I enjoy writing for and really pull in the family feel, community wise.

Everyone that knows me personally or through Xbox and gaming channels, will know that I love community projects and talking to people, campaigning and hearing the voices of many gamers in my ears all whilst having fun, and this year I really want to build on that. So, without giving anything away watch this space!

Gaming

Since I wrote my first X-Life blog post, I’ve been enjoying Sea of Thieves once more. Sea of Thieves is such a fabulous game that is always changing, and Rare have worked wonders to create a vibrant world, with amazing colours, and gameplay that is second to none. Of course, the best way to enjoy Sea of Thieves is with at least one other, and what but way to get me back in to this game, then jumping back in to a sloop with Last Save Loaded’s Colm for the start of a regular fortnightly stream adventure titled. Two Friends in a sloop, What could go wrong?

We had such a blast recreating the magic of two years ago, and I can’t wait to do it all over again. I broke Colm in gently and he did his best to set fire to the ship and cause mayhem, but in the end we got our act together, defeated many pirates and brought home plenty of loot.

Will it be the case next time? One thing for sure, I have no doubt we will have a laugh!

Continuing on with the Sea of Thieves magic, I joined my sons last weekend as we planned a voyage and set off across the waters, once again to an amazing amount of success, capturing lots bounty, treasure and defeating the mighty Kraken along the way.

Sea of Thieves is a game that will truly live on in my mind, it’s game where friendships are forged, and memories are made. Massive thank you to Rare and Xbox for creating such a wonderful experience.

Since the last blog post I have hosted two Completexbox community nights on Pipeworks Prominence Poker, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and as always, it’s a pleasure chatting with friends and the Completexbox community, it always feels like a family get together, and I can’t thank the attendees enough, you are all very special to me.

Other games of note that I have played recently are – Saints Row (so much fun), PGA 2K23 & PGA 2K21 (community society events, held every week), NFS: Unbound (fantastic arcade racer), and The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt Xbox Series X|S Update (boy does that game feel fresh and look stunning).

What’s Coming Up

A few things are on the horizon – First up is the ongoing Annual Completexbox Gamerscore challenge, something we hold every year at Completexbox, so that means I’ll be playing various titles from my backlog in order to maintain a respectable position. Some of the games I’ve played recently are modern takes on old school racers, and those games were Horizon Chase Turbo and Super Night Riders. I love playing games that take me back to the likes of Outrun and Super Hang On….

Ahh yesterday!

Our Annual New Year Gamerscore Challenge is Back

Next up – Our Thursday Community game night. This week we are playing Forza Horizon 5, which will provide plenty of racing action, a bit of friendly competitiveness and fantastic flowing chat amongst friends. Hopefully we welcome a few more newcomers into the Completexbox family too.

Then – This Saturday I jump back into a sloop with Colm from Last Save Loaded, for our Two Friends in a sloop, what could possibly go wrong stream via our twitch channel.

The details about this stream can be found below

This is one that’s not to be missed if you are up early on a Saturday morning, why not join us and interact with us!

And Last but not least…..

As I mentioned right at the start of the blog post, we are hard at work on something really big at Completexbox, which will add something amazing to our website, offer something that is missing, that a few have been crying out for, and help grow that family like feel community I always bang on about.

Just maybe, we will have some more news on this before I write my next X-Life post.

Well, there you have it, my Second X Life blog post. Let me know in the comments what you have been getting up to in the gaming world of late, and if there’s any ideas you have that can make Completexbox even better.

All the best

Dave
