It is the moment I and many others have been anticipating for a long time now, including the incredible team at Digital Cybercherries themselves. A passion project from a development team that started in 2015 whilst working full-time day jobs alongside designing Hypercharge: Unboxed, the small close-knit team has blossomed into an exceptional game. I wrote an article back in 2022 detailing the passion and journey of Hypercharge: Unboxed and you can read that HERE.

Whilst the game has been available on Windows PC since 2020, it has received over 3300 user reviews on Steam with a very positive rating! This is the game you have always dreamed of, especially if you’re an 80s or 90s kid like myself. Those who grew up playing with action figures and watching movies like Toy Story will appreciate this game massively and there is nothing else out there just like Hypercharge: Unboxed.

So What Is Hypercharge Unboxed?

The game is a first and third-person shooter comprised of action figures and takes real inspiration from the likes of Small Soldiers and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Accessible to players of all ages and abilities, there is a huge whack of content with a variance of game modes, maps, customisation options and more. The best bit though is that there are no pay-to-win elements, loot boxes, monetisation or any of that nonsense. It is refreshing to see games of this nature arrive without worrying about whether you can look as cool as your mates. Even if the game did come with battle passes and gear like that though, I wouldn’t blame them for jumping on the bandwagon since only 6 people worked on this magical title.

Key Features

What are we getting straight out of the box then? Have a glance below

  • 1-4 player online/local co-op.
  • Full split-screen support including online/local.
  • Single-player/offline play with player bots.
  • Difficulty scales based on the number of players.

A Green Light For Crossplay!

If you love your online multiplayer action like I do, then you’ll be excited to hear that full crossplay support is featured. To begin with, Steam and Xbox players will be able to link up and play together with Nintendo Switch coming in a future update.  Playstation players need not feel left out, since their time will come at some stage very soon.

Final Thoughts

I am chuffed to bits for the team at Digital Cybercherries, the success so far of Hypercharge: Unboxed is an incredible story. It has meant that the team can focus on some other intriguing upcoming projects such as Paranormal Tales, built with Unreal Engine 5 and a different experience to action figures. But if the quality of what they have worked on so far is anything to go by, this studio has a magnificent future ahead.

Hypercharge: Unboxed releases on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on 31st May 2024 and will retail at $29.99/£24.30 approximately. Me and the team at Complete Xbox can’t wait to get our hands on it and get our competitive game on!
