Dead Island 2 is finally here and with that, I thought why not throw together some useful tips and words of advice that will help you on your travels around HELL-A!?

Lets get right into it!

Keep Weapons Repaired and Maxed Out!

You’ll reach a point where you will become familiar with different weapons and modifications and how they fit into your play-style. Enjoy bopping around Los Angeles with a sledgehammer and a shotgun? Cool! Scrap and sell everything else you find and focus all your efforts on your favourite weapons.

Selling everything you don’t use to a local trader ensures you always have enough funds to make necessary repairs and to be able to bring your weapons up to your current level, which can be costly at times, especially in the later game.

Lost On Quests?

Not sure what to do or where you need to go when following a specific quest or side mission? Make sure to click LS when looking at a quest in the menu to bring up related documents you’ve found and you just might find some useful information contained within them.

Endless Supply Of Med-Kits!

Running low on med kits or can’t find any protein bars? Those with a keen eye will notice certain safe rooms that have an endless supply of med-kits. For instance, The Blue Crab safe room at Venice Beach has a closest behind the bar containing two med-kits that were here every single time I swung past the venue.

All you need to do is hunt around in the basement for the key to the closet when you first reach this location and you can revisit for recovery items endlessly when you’re in the area.

Unlocking New Skill Cards!

Completing certain story missions, side quests, or killing particular zombies are just some of the ways you’ll be granted with a new card. You’re met with a “open skill menu” prompt when you do, so it’s wise to always check and keep on top of what you’ve unlocked and continue to playing around with different cards, as they can work in your favour massively!

Dealing with Apex Variants!

While the melee combat remains most satisfying (in my opinion) you can’t go wrong keeping a rifle or shotgun on-hand. Work out your favourite and keep ammo spare and make sure it’s upgraded and packed full off modifications. These prove unbelievably useful when coming up against mutators or butchers where it can be a challenge trying to land a hit up close.

Keep a Stock of Fuses!

You might notice the ability to buy fuses from traders as and when you stumble across these NPCs and might wonder why.

These bad boys allow you to reach otherwise unreachable places and can contain some very handy loot and sometimes a rare powerful weapon, so be sure to keep stocked up on fuses whenever you visit a trader, as you never know when they’ll come in handy!

Utilise the Environment!

Hazards aplenty around Los Angeles and a good slayer makes the most of every situation. If you’re being chased by a horde it’d be wise to keep a Molotov Cocktail on hand if you’re going to run them through a puddle of fuel. Keep an eye out for car batteries too, as they work great near fire hydrants or chucking them into swimming pools, helping to thin out the horde and give slayers an upper-hand!

Make the Most of Curveballs!

Curveballs are your secondary throwables and can consist of throwing stars, Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs and meat bait to name a few. There’s no point throwing a pipe bomb at a couple of zombies when you’ll be much better off saving it for more tense situations. Once you find a new curveball they can be changed out whenever you like but are rechargeable, so you don’t have to worry about crafting them or continuously finding more.

That is why it’s smart to make the most of them and use then sparingly. While a pipe bomb might help you in once instance, you might need it even more 30 seconds later when it’s not charged, so be smart and reserved!

Finally…

Just keep on on top of your inventory and playing around with everything at your disposal. Keep mixing up the cards and testing out new abilities and weapons to find what suits your play style best but most of all… HAVE FUN!
