Hot on the heels of last week’s reveal of Super Basketball Classics during The MIX & Kinda Funny Spring Game Showcase at GDC, publisher Acclaim and developer Namo Gamo today announced that its predecessor, the original Basketball Classics, is now available digitally on modern consoles for $9.99 with a 10% launch discount.

Originally released on Steam in 2019, Basketball Classics delivers a love letter to the golden era of sports games. Now, two-man indie studio Namo Gamo has returned to the court to bring fast-paced, arcade-style hoops to players’ living rooms with retro-inspired 5-on-5 pick-up-and-play gameplay and bone-rattling dunks.

The console launch of Basketball Classics lets even more players experience the backboard-breaking action that started it all before Super Basketball Classics—starring the legendary Harlem Globetrotters—tips off on consoles and Steam later this year.

This has been a childhood dream of ours,” said Namo Gamo co-founder David Pilkington. “Now, almost a decade in the making, Basketball Classics will be available to new users on consoles worldwide. Thanks to Acclaim for making this dream a reality. We can’t wait to follow this up with Super Basketball Classics.

Inspired by the pick-up-and-play magic of classic sports titles like Tecmo Super Bowl, Basketball Classics channels the spirit of 8-bit and 16-bit sports games into a modern experience built for quick matches, couch competition, and highlight-reel plays. With its streamlined three-button controls and side-scrolling perspective, every possession is easy to jump into, while still leaving room for clutch shots, slick passes, and gravity-defying slams.
