Indie Studio’s First Passion Project Pays Homage to Classic Gaming with Mix of 3D Metroidvania-Platformer Play and Important Ecological Message

Chameleon Games, a new independent game development studio, today announced that its primate action-adventure game, Tamarin®, will soon be coming to the Xbox One and Games for Windows. Set in beautiful Nordic scenery, Tamarin stars the world’s cutest monkey on a quest to save his family from ever-expanding insects intent on industrializing the forest that the tamarins call home.

Tamarin is slated for launch on the Microsoft platforms on November 17 and can be pre-ordered starting today on the Microsoft Store for $29.99. Purchasing the game for either Microsoft platform automatically includes the game for the other.
The gameplay of Tamarin channels the energy of 3D platformers and explorative Metroidvania shooters, blending the classic genres in a new way that serves the game’s environmental narrative. Players will explore an irresistible interconnected 3D world, brimming with agile primate platforming and bug-splattering shooter action. Journey through the Nordic wilderness on scenic routes through forests, fjords, and mountains while trying to stop the insect invasion. Collect mysterious electrical fireflies, rescue innocent birds, and discover the underground base of the dancing ants while battling to restore the tamarins’ natural habitat.
The small team at Chameleon Games worked to bring the self-funded Tamarin to life over the course of several years, tapping into the talents of some industry veterans along the way. These included character and concept artists, a composer, and an audio engineer that previously worked on such classic titles as Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox Adventures, and GoldenEye 007. They set out to create a game that explores the topics of environmental threat and conservation, conveyed through a game that would be fun for players of all ages.
“We wanted to create a game that had meaning but was also accessible to a broad audience; a game that explored new places, the beauty of nature, and the melding of gameplay elements while paying homage to a classic and nostalgic era of games,” said Omar Sawi, Chameleon Games’ director. “Tamarin has been a labor of love for everyone that contributed to the game throughout its development, and we’re thrilled that it will now be available on Microsoft’s platforms.”
Tamarin, which can be pre-ordered starting today, will launch for Xbox One and on the Microsoft Store on November 17, 2021, at $29.99 USD. The game is also available for PlayStation 4 and on Steam.
