It’s a good time to be a Magic The Gathering fan, with Netflix recently confirming an animated MTG (by the Russo Brothers no less!) and now Magic: Legends teaser cinematic trailer confirming rumours of a MTG MMO!
Talk on the Magic scene had hinted at the idea of another MTG game of some sort coming to consoles, whether that be a console version of the popular MTGArena client or something else entirely, Microsoft put those rumours to bed with the drop of the cinematic teaser trailer for Legends.
Done in flashes of Planeswalkers (that’s you!) battling across the multiverse, we see a glimpse of the style and possible scope of the project. For those in the know, the locations shown were quite the teaser to whet the appetite; but for those unaware, here is a list of the planes we see in the trailer –
- Ravnica (the City plane…Basically Coruscant from Star Wars)
- Innistrad (the Gothic themed plane. Lost of vampires, werewolves, and angels here!)
- Dominaria (the OG plane, where Magic the Gathering trading card game started!)
- Zendikar (the wild tempest plane. Big plants, angry storms.)
- …And I’m not sure on the last one. Seemed a bit vague to me, but youtube comments seem to think it’s Mirrodin which is an artificial Plane, built by the Planeswalker Karn, lots of organic-metal hybrid things.
And that’s really all we have to go on. It has certainly made me excited as a long time Magic fan and collector, and I can’t wait to see more and find out just how many planes they’ll let us explore!
