Indie horror fans are about to get a heavy dose of retro dread. Publisher JanduSoft has officially partnered with Spanish solo developer Carlos Azuaga to launch Yellowcreek Stories: The Cabin Watcher, a new survival horror game heavily inspired by iconic 1980s VHS slasher films. The game is scheduled to release on August 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S.
The Cabin Watcher marks the first entry in a planned anthology series. The game casts players as a writer seeking inspiration in a remote, storm-battered mountain cabin. The isolation is quickly shattered by a lone figure standing in the rain—masked, armed with a machete, and hunting the protagonist.
Mechanics and Atmosphere
According to the developers, the title relies heavily on stealth and psychological tension rather than pure action. The killer reacts dynamically to the player’s movements, light sources, and sounds. “Staying hidden means staying alive,” the studio notes, describing the core gameplay as a “tense psychological game of cat and mouse.”
The partnership marks Azuaga’s formal entry into the JanduSoft publishing roster.
