Red Barrels has officially pulled back the curtain on the upcoming season for The Outlast Trials. Titled Season 7: Project Boneyard, the massive update is set to launch on July 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The announcement is accompanied by a brand-new cinematic trailer giving players their first glimpse at a brutal new environment, terrifying fresh threats, and extensive feature reworks.
Order, Punishment, and Profit
In Project Boneyard, Reagents are thrown directly into a prison riot in progress. Fan-favourite antagonist Sergeant Leland Coyle returns to the spotlight, reclaiming control to enforce his own twisted brand of discipline, punishment, and profit within the Sinyala Facility.
The centerpiece of Season 7 is the Prison Farm, a gruelling new Trial environment designed around the dark underbelly of correctional conditioning, contraband, and institutional violence. Within this meat grinder, players will have to navigate intense new power dynamics to survive Murkoff’s latest experiment.
New Trials, Challenges, and “The Biter”
The update introduces a headline Trial alongside two new MK-Challenges, tasking players with dismantling the prison’s corrupted power structures:
-
New Trial: Locksock the Warden – Players must push past false authority and eliminate the Warden to secure their freedom.
-
MK-Challenge: Bribe the Judges – Reagents must collect bribes and pay off the judges to maintain the monopoly of capital and escape.
-
MK-Challenge: Cancel the Broadcast – A bloody task requiring players to sabotage broadcasts and defile the faithful.
Survival won’t be easy, especially with the introduction of a dangerous new Ex-Pop enemy: The Biter. Stalking the Prison Farm, these universal sadists have had their arms removed to prevent self-harm, but they remain lethal. Equipped with mechanically enforced jaws and chained by the neck, Biters possess unexpected velocity thanks to augmented legs, making them highly volatile threats.
Feature Reworks and Customisation
Red Barrels is also introducing a wave of quality-of-life updates and personalisation options to help Reagents better prepare for therapy. Season 7 will debut:
-
Rig Customization & Knife Customisation
-
Loadout Presets for streamlined preparation
-
Mastery Tasks to expand player progression
Additionally, players can expect major reworks to both the Escalation and Invasion modes. Red Barrels promises significant structural changes aimed at improving flow, pacing, and the overall gameplay experience. More granular details regarding these reworks will be shared closer to the official launch date.
