Red Barrels has officially released Season 7.1 for The Outlast Trials, bringing a wave of toxic new content, challenges, and feature updates to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Available starting today, September 8, 2026, the free update for current game owners introduces the Chemical Leak Limited-Time Event, new MK-Challenges, a limited-time Catalog, and several significant quality-of-life additions.

Running from Tuesday, September 8 at 10:00 ET through Tuesday, October 6 at 10:00 ET, the Chemical Leak event fills Trial environments with deadly toxic gas. To survive, Reagents must navigate the fog-choked maps to locate and shut off valves, clearing the air before time runs out.

Accompanying the event is the Chemical Leak Catalog, which allows players to earn and spend Event Tokens on limited-time rewards throughout the four-week window.

Two New MK-Challenges

Season 7.1 adds two brand-new MK-Challenges to test players’ resolve and coordination:

  • Change the Program: Reagents are tasked with broadcasting Murkoff’s preferred narrative across the environment to secure their release.

  • Fund the Campaign: Focuses on financial influence and government subversion, requiring players to secure funding to earn their freedom.

Invasion, Escalation, and Gameplay Improvements

Beyond new event content, Season 7.1 introduces balancing tweaks and structural updates across core game modes:

  • Invasion Updates: Refined to enhance fairness, readability, and pacing during intense player encounters.

  • Escalation Adjustments: Addressed through direct community feedback to improve stability and ensure player progress is saved if a connection is lost.

  • Mod Support & Settings: Red Barrels has disabled third-party mod support to maintain competitive fairness. To compensate, frequently requested modded features—such as a Field of View (FOV) slider and Toggle HUD Display options—have been integrated directly into the base game settings menu for all players.

Availability

The Outlast Trials Season 7.1 and the Chemical Leak Limited-Time Event are live now across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles as a free update for existing owners.
