Riot Games has revealed a host of new features coming to VALORANT in Patch 13.06, including an experimental game mode, a brand-new automatic rifle and a revamped progression system for Agents.
The developer updates arrive ahead of VALORANT Champions, with Riot also teasing further competitive improvements and a new Agent planned for after the tournament.
One of the biggest announcements is Gauntlet: Glitched, a brand-new experimental game mode that challenges players to create their own hybrid Robo-Agent by drafting abilities from a randomised pool. The mode features eight teams of two competing in a tournament-style round robin, with the action continuing until only one team remains.
Throughout each match, players can upgrade the abilities that best suit their playstyle, creating unique builds and combinations every time they play. Familiar abilities can also be affected by unexpected “glitches”, introducing unpredictable twists and encouraging players to experiment.
VALORANT is also getting a new automatic rifle in the form of the Warden. Designed to offer a stronger Aim Down Sights (ADS) option, the Warden aims to provide players with greater flexibility during buy rounds. Its high damage output makes it particularly effective when holding longer sightlines, without requiring players to commit to a sniper rifle.
The new weapon joins the Vandal and Phantom as another primary rifle option, giving players more choice when deciding how to approach a round.
Riot is introducing a new Agent Mastery system designed to reward players for their time and performance with their favourite Agents.
The new system will replace the existing Agent Gear system and allow players to showcase their dedication through a customisable Agent ID.
Mastery progression will be tied to both playtime and performance, with rewards including:
- Agent portraits.
- Icons.
- Borders.
- Other cosmetic rewards.
The aim is to give players more ways to show off their experience and long-term commitment to the Agents they enjoy playing.
Competitive players can also look forward to several improvements focused on celebrating achievements and tracking their ranked journey. Riot says players will gain enhanced ways to follow their competitive progression and show off their accomplishments.
Competitive Flex will evolve throughout the year based on ranked achievements, with players able to unlock additional upgrades during each Act. New Competitive Rewards will also begin with the start of the 2027 season.
Alongside the headline additions, Riot has outlined several further updates coming to VALORANT.
These include:
- Updated home screen:** An improved look and feel for the game’s main menu.
- Practice Range while matchmaking:** Players will be able to access the Practice Range while waiting in the matchmaking queue.
- Console expansion:** VALORANT is launching on consoles in Australia and New Zealand.
- New Agent:** A brand-new Agent is planned for release after Champions.
Gauntlet: Glitched is confirmed to arrive with Patch 13.06, which is scheduled to launch ahead of VALORANT Champions.
