Many games require funding and support as it goes through development, which is where Steam’s Early Access has succeeded. Microsoft now has a service of its own called Xbox Game Preview.
Game Preview will let users play titles in development such as DayZ, which was shown during the presentation.
It’s fair to say a lot of risk goes into the PC platform, which is where Microsoft hope to improve with a demo format. You’ll be able to play every title first before putting money towards it, so you’ll get a good idea how the game plays.
We’re still awaiting more details on this, but the first few titles available today are Elite: Dangerous and The Long Dark.
