Bright Memory Infinite is set in a futuristic metropolis in the year 2036, where players, as Shelia, Science Research Organization (SRO) agent, to investigate mysterious phenomenons that scientists can’t explain. Shelia discovers that hese strange occurrences are connected to an archaic mystery.

Bright Memory Infinite mixes first person shooting with first person melee-ing. As you progress through the game, you’ll find a decent arsenal of weaponry, but nothing out of the ordinary: shotgun, machinegun, sniper, etc… For each weapon you can pick up special ammo that can be enabled by pressing Up on the d-pad. For example, the shotgun lets you shoot grenade-like bullet that explodes on contact. You can also run, slide and dodge.

Melee combat is done through your energy sword. Not only can you slice and dice, but your sword can also be used to block and parry attacks. You can also swing enemies in the air with it. Additional skills can be unlock as you progress through the game. Shelia can also use a telekinesis-like skill where you’ll grab enemies from afar to either slide them in mid-air or make them explode with a shockwave. You can also use a grappling hook in specific pre-determined spots.

One of the game’s best feature are the boss battles: fast-paced hectic and against some of the biggest enemies. All bosses, no matter the size, will require players to make of all their skills and weapons in order to survive.

While Bright Memory Infinite easily shot up at the top of my GOTY 2022 list, the game’s biggest problem is it’s length: it took me 2 hours to plow through this game. I did a little of exploring to find relics and ammo; died a handful of times as I was learning boss patterns, but this feel a bit short-changed.

The game looks great overall. Environments are lush and detailed; the water is drop dead gorgeous and everything looks perfectly shiny with Ray-tracing on. There’s decent enemy variety for its length; gigantic bosses are impressive and highly detailed. Although the Shelia character model does look a bit outdated; reminded me of some characters from Dead or Alive 4 on Xbox 360. The soundtrack is a banger of a score.

Criminally short length aside, Bright Memory Infinite is one of the best FPS experience I’ve played in the few years, well basically since the first “chapter”. It’s action packed from start to finish, boss battles mixes high speed combat along with a flair of strategy and the arsenal of weaponry and equipment are a blast to use. I highly recommend this to fans of the FPS genre. Don’t sleep on this game.
