Crash Drive 3 is basically a car/motor vehicle version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. You’re driving around a specific terrain where you’ll be required to perform tricks through ramps in order to earn points, but also compete in events that will earn you money and XP in order to level up.

Akin to Tony Hawk’s famous skateboarding games, you’ve thrown into a playground with various obstacles to avoid and ramps to use and pull off the limited tricks you can with a four-wheel vehicle. There will also be green rings to collect by jumping through them, and money crates to earn a few extra bucks. As you pull off tricks, you’ll earn money to buy new rides and XP to gain additional levels.

Once you’re in a playground, you’ll have a few minutes to ride around to pull tricks and collect crates and rings. After a few seconds, there’ll be a prompt warning you of an event about to begin. Events vary from races, coin collecting, stunt, and popping a beach ball. During the events, you can still pull tricks for additional XP and cash, although waste too much doing so because completing events is more rewarding.

Unfortunately, they are a few quirks that will bring the fun to a stop. First off is the annoying beach ball event where you have to burst a beach ball. Problem is, you don’t know how much health it has (I assumed 100%?) but you’ll spend half your time trying to catch up with it as it bounces around after every hit. You also cannot pause the game properly. I can understand this while playing online, but if you’re in the middle of an event when playing solo or offline the event’s timer won’t stop when pausing the game. In the first area, the train tracks will derail you if you attempt to build up speed.

The game looks great albeit don’t expect a crazy high level of detail whether it be in the environments or vehicles. The visuals are highly colorful and each area of the open world is uniquely designed to offer crazier riding and tricks. However, the soundtrack is a boring, stock soft rock soundtrack that unfortunately feels familiar. Also, at times, the music stops inexplicably and will randomly restart during the events.

Crash Drive 3 is definitely worth the price of admission. It’s an easy-to-pick-up and-play unique arcade racing game where you get to pull tricks in cars. The game’s nuisances aren’t a detriment to the overall fun that can be gotten out of this, especially online with friends. If you’re looking for big dumb fun or watered-down alternative to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Crash Drive 3 is worth it.
