I haven’t played a Kairosoft game for years. This previously mobile-only publisher kept me entertained for hours. Accordingly, when I was offered 4 unique titles on Xbox, I couldn’t resist. Though piling each of these titles into 1 review may be a bit cheeky, this Kairosoft collection has too many similarities for me to write 4 unique reviews.
Forest Golf Planner, Ninja Village, Cafeteria Nipponica, and Tropical Resort Story form this Kairosoft collection. Each is sold separately, and I adored each special theme. Moreover, these management simulation experiences were fun, simple, and brilliantly pixelated. As such, they were dated, rudimentary, and a joy to play.
The Kairosoft collection tells a basic tale.
None of these games has an epic tale to tell. Instead, you get a basic story that can be forgotten. Running a new golf course, setting up a food business, running a holiday resort, and raising an army of ninjas are the aim of the game. As the action unfolds, you quickly realise that everything is straightforward. However, there are some challenging moments to keep you busy.
Research, money, and patience are key mechanics when tackling these games. Your customers and staff are a little needy. Consequently, you must treat them well and understand their needs if you wish to thrive. Moreover, you’ll need to invest in new facilities, tools, people, and more as the action unfolds.
Plenty to keep you busy.
Though each of these games has distinctly mobile gaming mechanics, there is plenty to keep you busy. Balancing your books, researching new facilities, appeasing your customers, and much more will test you. Furthermore, expanding your world was great.
Everything works well because of the helpful hints and the continued guidance. You will rarely become stuck as the game pushes you through each key area. However, progress can be slow and grindy, and this may annoy impatient gamers.
The Kairosoft collection has a grainy finish.
I’m not ashamed to admit my love of pixelated games. Maybe it is my gaming roots or the simple finish, but I adore the art style. I know it doesn’t push modern machines, but I don’t care. I love the vibrancy and the lack of detail. Furthermore, the Kairosoft collection never falters. The animation is smooth, and moving the camera was an easy task. If that isn’t enough, the audio is basic but fun. Energetic songs match the lively themes. Additionally, simple sound effects work to great effect.
Though the Kairosoft collection is easy to pick up, there were some controller issues. Flitting between menus can be slow and tricky. However, once you understand what you are doing, you soon forget the issues. Many of the core mechanics are repetitive, and this could turn some people off. Replay value and longevity are limited, and I’d recommend playing these casually.
It is fun but limited.
I enjoyed each of the 4 games. Though they were limited, they were fun. The simple approach makes them easy to pick up, and the colourful graphics are a joy to look at. Consequently, though they were basic, I recommend picking them up from the Xbox store.
