Maiden Cops is set in the fictional city of Maiden City, which has been taken over by a secret criminal organization called The Liberators looking to control the city with fear and violence. It’s up to Priscilla, Nina, and Meiga, the Maiden Cops, to come to the rescue and save the city and its civilians.

Maiden Cops is a side-scrolling 2D beat’em up action game where players go from point A to point B by beating up every enemy coming their way in order to reach the level boss. You’ll also be able to beat up a bunch of breakable things to collect items.

Each character handle slightly differently. Nina is the small, fast hitting, low damage character, Priscilla is the overall balanced character whereas Meiga is the tank one; hard hitting and slower movements. You’ll be able to pick up a variety of weapons such as knives, pipes, swords, helmets; just to name a few.

The biggest difference is that bigger weapons can also be used by bulky Meiga. You’ll find things like steel beams or street lamps that only Meiga can pick up and swing around. Additionally weapons can also be thrown. All three characters have the same attack patterns.

All three have a basic weak attack, but also have three special attacks reliant on a meter. You can also grab enemies to hit or throw them. All three ladies can also run, block, jump and dodge either up or down. As you beat up scum and destroy certain objects, you’ll pick up a variety of items that will reward players with money.

The money you earn can be used to buy new outfits, cheats, music; and it’ll require more than a playthrough to unlock everything. The story mode offers three difficulty settings (Easy, Normal and Hard) whereas Arcade mode throws you in the fire with hard.

Maiden Cops look great; it’s colorful, albeit limited in terms of enemies. While you progress, you’ll see a few new faces, most of the enemies are recycled. Each level has its own theme and unique from one another. It has an old school CRT filter which gives the game a nice little retro touch. The soundtrack is fine; not quite as memorable as other beat’em ups, but I’ve heard worse.

There isn’t much in terms of problems, but bosses can be annoying. Most of their attacks are unblockable and they also move as twice as fast as any of the three heroines. While it’s fun to have a few things like unlockable to work for; most of them are a bit useless, especially the cheats.

Maiden Cops is a fun, addictive, simplistic beat’em up. It’s always one more level. Each character, while mostly similar, feel distinct and unique. The game encourages replays in order to unlock everything for completionists. Boss battles are straight forward, but incredibly brutal and unforgiving. If you’re looking for a fun time killer, Maiden Cops is one of the most addictive and fun beat’em up. Definitely worth your time and money.
