Ninja Nightfall is a 2D action platformer where players are put in the virtual boots of the last silent guardian, an elite ninja, who’s currently on a mission to save his city from being overrun by a hostile A.I..
Ninja Nightfall will make you go through 10 levels of hazard filled obstacles and enemies. Our protagonist can jump, run, double jump, wall jump, use his trusty sword for up close damage and a shoot a bow for long range attacks.

Each level has three sacred lotus relics that acts as checkpoints which allows you to reset at a reasonable spot in the level instead of having to start from the beginning. Levels will also have Stars for you to collect. They don’t do anything besides unlocking Achievements. You can also collect hearts to refill your health.
As you progress further in the game, levels become increasingly harder and more complex. You’ll need to master the art of jumping, double jumping, wall jump and running to dodge carefully placed traps through each level. For those looking beyond reaching the end of the level, they try and find every hidden zone.

The game looks great in its 8-bit goodness. However, the color palette is a bit limited and there’s isn’t much in terms of environment variety. Given its short length, the enemy variety is also limited. The overall level design is top notch. Nothing feels cheap or highly problematic; if you die, it’s on you. The soundtrack is an enjoyable rock chiptune score with Japanese instruments that fits well with the game’s action.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with Ninja Nightfall aside from the clunky wall jump mechanic. It feels stiff, not responsive at times making conquering certain obstacles harder to avoid than they should be. It’s also a bit on the short side. Gameplay is addictive and will make you want more.

Ninja Nightfall is an addictive 2D action platformer that will leave you wanting for more. The gameplay, for the most part, is actually tight, solid and responsive. Once you manage to get a grasp of the clunky wall jump action, things get a bit better, but it’s still not perfect. Highly recommended for a bite sized, addictive experience.
