Pure Chase 80’s is a linear arcade racing game where players need to race from start to finish before the timer runs out. Thankfully, you’ll drive through checkpoints that will restart the timer; crash too many times and you might run out of time. Every level has the same synopsis of your car having a bomb and reaching the checkpoints and finish line allows you to live another day.

Each level of Pure Chase 80’s is peppered with various obstacles that needs to be avoided such as helicopter shooting their guns, explosive barrels, other cars on the road, tramways; among other dangerous hazards. You’ll even sometime have “battles” where boats will throw bomb in your paths that you need to drive into and throw them back to your attacks and destroy them.

The game’s biggest problem is that each level/race feels overly and unnecessarily long where it becomes difficult to stay focused and see a single level through. Its repetitive nature is annoying; without any solid gameplay variety, it feels like you’ve seen everything with the game’s first two levels. Also why Donald Trump as the driver??!!

The game looks great as a whole; it features a bright and colored palette where each area looks different and features different weather to avoid level design repetition. The soundtrack is definitely one of the game’s strong points; it’s a slightly dark inspired synthwave score that will get you in the mood to have the pedal to the metal.

Pure Chase 80’s feels like the perfect definition of shovelware with limited replay value. Each level is the same thing over and over making this the type of game you can easily forget and shut off after a few minutes. Given its limited gameplay and replay value, this game feels overpriced. Might as well hunt down an NES and Rad Racer. The investment will be more worth it.
