For decades Extreme Sports games have been a cornerstone genre to some cult classics over the years showcasing Skateboards, BMX’s and Roller-skates but there is one important thing missing off that list and ScooterFlow puts that to rights. UncannyKiwi Limited have provided the perfect Freestyle Sports Simulation game on 2 wheels which combines having total freedom and control with realistic does of style.

Unlike a skateboard which is manipulated by foot movements, a scooter is a tripod of tension moved between your hands, feet and steering column. ScooterFlow captures this mechanically impressively well and you can really feel the weight of the metal and speed when going down a ramp or using the turning circle to navigate around. Using a twin stick control scheme the left stick is to control body weight and carving whilst the right stick is for tricking and rotations. Using a combination of triggers, bumpers and stick controls there’s a massive stack of tricks to master.

There is a well-placed tutorial that gives you a crash course of how to operate, flick tricks and get a grip of the basics. Once complete you are open to explore a handful of maps which offer different scootering experiences ranging from mega ramps and bowls to trick out as well as parks that offer grind rails and a bit of variety. For people who enjoy extreme sports, sandbox and want to put hours into learning different tricks and approaches this will appeal massively to you. If you are more fans of an arcade experience of collecting score and having objectives then you might be disappointed that this is entirely based on physics and the love of Scooters.

There is a multiplayer feature which on my review I tried out which runs very smooth, offers up to 8 people to load into the same session and you all trick away to your hearts content. I found this to be the best way to experience it because you see others either hit the deck or do a cool trick somewhere that you want to replicate. Also on offer is a replay function so you can do photo ops or you hit a cool trick you are free to roll back and record it to show your scooter friends a cool line or moment.

Of course, the important question you are probably asking is what is the customisation options like? With over 30 brands licenced like Apex and Lucky Scooters there is a massive selection to customise your scooter from your deck, wheels, bars and other aspects there is plenty colour and variation to pick from. You can also customise your rider with a few Scooter Pros to choose from if you fancy to make sure you’re scooting in style!

ScooterFlow successfully fills a long standing void in the extreme sports genre, delivering a sophisticated simulation that honours the unique physics of scootering. UncannyKiwi Limited has created a zen-like experience focused on flow, style, and technical mastery. It is a love letter to the scootering community that demands patience but rewards it with unparalleled realism and paired perfectly with the soundtrack of your choice or their fantastic choice of tunes it’s something special.
