Gears of War: E-Day takes the franchise back to its brutal, gritty roots while completely reimagining its signature PvE co-op experience. Enter Horde Siege – a massive 12-player evolution that expands the classic wave-survival formula into dynamic, city-spanning warfare across the fallen streets of Kalona.
Whether you’re jumping into quick Blitz missions, tackling high-stakes Siege operations, or defending a fortified position in classic 10-wave Horde mode, surviving the Locust eruption requires far more than just quick shotgun reflexes. Here is everything you and your squad need to master Horde Siege.

1. Squad Roles: Build for Synergy
Horde Siege relies on four distinct classes, each bringing a crucial role to the battlefield:
| Class | Primary Role | Key Focus & Playstyle |
| Assault | Mid-range Firepower | Frontline engagement, objective pushing, and crowd control. |
| Marksman | Long-range Support | Target priority enemies (Boomers, Therons) before they close in. |
| Medic | Squad Sustainability | Revives, shielding, and keeping energy output high under pressure. |
| Breacher | Close-Quarters / Heavy | Flanking, breach-and-clear manoeuvres, and heavy fortification damage. |
Pro Tip: Never drop into high difficulties like Commander or Allfather without a balanced squad composition. A team lacking a Medic will quickly run out of steam during multi-objective Siege missions. The medic is key!
2. Master the Shared Resource Economy
Energy is the lifeblood of your squad. Earned by eliminating Locust forces and completing primary and secondary map objectives, Energy feeds into a shared squad pool.
-
Don’t Hoard: Spend Energy at Supply Caches early to buy essential gear, upgrade Squad Perks, and acquire heavy weapons before difficulty spikes.
-
Coordinate Purchases: Because the pool is shared, communicate before making high-tier purchases. Make sure your Breacher gets heavy weaponry or your Medic gets needed utility upgrades before spending on luxury weapons.

3. Work With (or Near) Neighbouring Squads
Unlike classic Horde, Horde Siege features three 4-player squads (12 players total) operating on the same large-scale map simultaneously.
-
Use Proximity Chat: Co-ordinate with nearby squads using built-in proximity audio. If your squad is getting overrun during an R.I.G. defensive objectives, call in adjacent teams for reinforcements.
-
Shared Fortifications: Defensive turrets, barriers, and fortifications placed on the map remain active even after the team that built them moves on. Utilise pre-built safe zones created by other squads as retreat anchors.
4. Prioritise World Bosses (“Invasions”)
During a session, colossal Invasions can trigger, bringing giant boss-tier threats like Corpsers, Brumaks, or flying Scoria onto the map.
-
Clear Modifiers Fast: World bosses impose severe session-wide combat modifiers that make normal enemies far more dangerous until the boss is defeated.
-
Form a 12-Gun Wall: When a World Boss spawns, abandon solo squad objectives temporarily. Merge all 12 players into a unified line of fire to shred boss armour and clear global debuffs efficiently.
5. Utilise Tag Retrieval for Clutches
Death in Horde Siege isn’t an instant trip back to the main menu.
-
Collect COG Tags: Falling in battle drops your COG tags on the ground. Teammates can collect your tags and run them to any Supply Cache to bring you back.
-
Cross-Squad Clutching: Players from other squads can also pick up your COG tags to deliver an instant revival. Keep an eye out for fallen friendly tags nearby—rescuing another squad’s player can save an entire operation.

6. Play the Objectives, Manage the Clock
In Siege and Blitz modes, standing still is a death sentence. Move quickly between objective zones—such as defending Imulsion-mapping R.I.G. scanners—to maximize rewards and maintain momentum.
-
Know When to Run: Extraction is the ultimate goal. If the timer is ticking down or a position becomes unholdable, fall back toward extraction zones.
-
Survival Matters: Remember – only one member of your squad needs to reach extraction alive for the mission to count as a success! When all else fails, prioritize the survival of a single teammate to secure your hard-earned Class XP and rewards.
