The parry-based action of Strayed Lights reaches new heights.

French indie studio Embers has released a new content update for their flagship title Strayed Lights, as part of their Summer content roadmap. This introduces two new difficulty modes that represent the two pillars of Strayed Lights — battling ferocious, titanic bosses or exploring the atmospheric, dreamlike world of the game.

In the Difficulty modes update, the world of Strayed Lights comes alive with two new difficulty modes: Challenge Mode and Story mode. Under Challenge mode, players are put to the test with an all-new hard difficulty mode, drawing comparisons between the game and its souls-like inspirations, such as the parry-based reactive combat of Sekiro – a central influence to Strayed Lights. .

In the “Story” mode update, Strayed Lights instead turns its attention to the dreamlike world that Embers has put together. With enemy encounters greatly pacified and bosses more serene, players seeking to explore the unique world and story of Strayed Lights at their own pace now have the option.

“With challenge mode, we’ve emphasized each boss’ unique design with ideas that were cut for being too challenging initially,” explains Embers Creative Director Alexandre Arramon, also adding that the Embers team even struggled to complete the game on this mode.”

“Whereas for Story mode, we wanted to share the experience of exploring this world for players who are invested in the emotional story of Strayed Lights. Players have been making ready-use of the in-game photo feature, which is a lot easier without giant shadows attacking you.” Alexandre also added that, by the time of the update, the Embers team still struggled to clear the game on Challenge mode.

Strayed Lights will be on sale as part of the Steam Summer Games sale starting June 29th for 30% off until July 14th. Gamers can also purchase the Strayed Lights Deluxe Edition on PC, which contains the full game plus a behind-the-scenes digital art book and soundtrack by Grammy award-nominated composer Austin Wintory – whose previous projects include ABZÛJourney®, and the upcoming Sword of the Sea.

Strayed Lights is the debut project of French indie developer Embers. “We’ve seen lots of fantastic feedback from players as we’ve developed this game,” adds CEO Damien Dessagne. “And we’re excited to see just how far players can continue to push the game in the future.”
