Italian game developer R-Games has officially unveiled Astral Dive, an upcoming story-driven fantasy role-playing game that blends classic Japanese RPG nostalgia with modern deck-building mechanics. Target launch windows place the title in early 2027 on Xbox Series X|S.

Astral Dive places players in the boots of Atlas, a young mage setting out to investigate mysterious occurrences that shattered the peace of his magic academy years earlier. Atlas’s search forces him to journey through interdimensional astral portals, stepping into seven distinct worlds. Along the way, players will recruit a roster of diverse companions – each bringing their own backstories, abilities, and tactical advantages to the party – while gathering lore fragments essential to understanding Atlas’s destiny and the secrets behind the academy.

The game reinterprets classic turn-based battles by introducing a custom deck-building mechanic centered around “Stellar Tiles”. Rather than relying solely on traditional menu commands, players collect spells throughout their journey to assemble dynamic card decks. Combats require tactical battlefield placement and precise spell combinations, demanding strategic foresight to unlock devastating elemental synergies capable of overcoming bizarre enemy creatures and giant boss encounters.

Visually, R-Games frames Astral Dive as a love letter to the golden era of 16-bit and 32-bit role-playing games. The game relies entirely on detailed, hand-drawn pixel art to craft its multi-layered environments, expressive character animations, and spell effects. Every frame aims to deliver a retro aesthetic enriched by dynamic modern lighting and smooth animations.

Astral Dive remains in active development ahead of its planned 2027 debut.
