The wait is almost over. Rockstar Games has officially blown the lid off the launch details for Grand Theft Auto 6, revealing its release date, pricing tiers, and a controversial twist to its physical release that has the gaming community talking.

The blockbuster title—widely rumoured by industry analysts to be the most expensive video game ever made is locked in for a November 19 release on Xbox Series X/S. Eager fans won’t have to wait long to secure their copy, as pre-orders are set to go live tonight, June 25, at midnight local time.

Here is everything you need to know about the launch of the decade.

The Price Tags

Rockstar confirmed that the standard edition of GTA 6 will retail for $79.99, while a premium “Ultimate Edition” will be available for $99.99. The Ultimate Edition will bundle exclusive in-game perks, including bonus vehicles, weapons, and character outfits.

While other currency pricing has not yet been confirmed, fans are waiting to see how the US figures translate.

Edition US Price Features
Standard Edition $79.99 Base Game
Ultimate Edition $99.99 Base Game + Bonus Vehicles, Weapons, & Outfits

The $79.99 price tag represents a $10 bump from the current $70 standard for next-gen blockbusters – and a significant leap from GTA 5’s $59.99 launch price back in 2013. However, fans seem relatively unfazed by the cost.

The “Physical” Catch: No Discs Allowed

The biggest talking point surrounding the announcement isn’t the price, but how the game will be delivered. Rockstar revealed that physical boxes bought in retail stores will not contain a disc. Instead, players will find a digital download code inside the case.

Freelance video games journalist Vic Hood noted that while the standard price is “fairly reasonable,” the lack of a physical disc is bound to “irk some physical collectors.”

However, Hood pointed out that the move makes perfect business sense for Rockstar. “It reduces the amount of rebuying and reselling and helps prevent leaks,” she explained.

Fan Backlash and Confusion

The “code-in-a-box” model has already triggered a wave of scepticism online. Social media platforms are flooded with fans questioning the point of buying a physical copy if it lacks media.

Pre-Loading Dates Confirmed

For those determined to play the second the servers go live, Rockstar has good news. Players who pre-order the digital version can begin pre-loading the game on November 12.

In an unusual move to accommodate the massive file size expected for the game, the disc-less physical versions will also hit store shelves on November 12, allowing physical buyers to take their code home and fully install the game a week ahead of the official November 19 launch.
