Studio Head of The Coalition, Rod Ferguson will leave in March to oversee Blizzard’s Diablo franchise.

Having worked on the Gears of War franchise for 15 years, the departure is somewhat of a surprise move from Rod’s passion constantly shown for Gears. His final influenced game will be Gears Tactics on 28th April.

Ferguson had previously left Epic in 2012 which coincided with the company being half bought out by Tencent Holdings. He then went onto Irrational Games where he helped launch Bioshock Infinite to great success, before joining Microsoft’s Black Tusk Studios to work on Gears once again.

During that transition Fergusion said he learned a lot of techniques in storytelling from working with Irrational Games, which some will say transpired into Gears of War in his return.

Where does this leave The Coalition? The team is still going strong and is likely to put up a big name studio lead.
