Popular roguelite kingdom builder The King is Watching is officially making the jump to consoles later this month. Developer Hypnohead and publisher tinyBuild announced today that the hit indie title will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on Wednesday, July 29.

After finding massive success on PC with over 600,000 units sold, the award-nominated title is ready to challenge console players to keep a very close eye on their production chains – literally.

Motivating with a Royal Gaze

In The King is Watching, players step into the crown of a “motivational monarch.” The core twist? Your subjects are incredibly lazy. The moment you look away, production grinds to a halt.

By directing the King’s literal gaze toward different sectors of the kingdom—such as wheat fields or local workshops—players inspire their peasants to actually get to work. Managing this attention split-second by split-second is the key to maintaining a thriving economy and defending the castle from incoming threats.

Playable Kings and Varied Playstyles

The console release will feature the game’s diverse roster of unlockable monarchs, each offering a completely different mechanical approach to ruling:

  • King Leo the Wise: Focuses on infrastructure, granting advanced building blueprints to his most loyal subjects.

  • King Spellus: A magical ruler who generates unique crystals to power devastating arcane spells.

  • King Alucard: A dread lord capable of resurrecting fallen soldiers to fight again as undead warriors.

Roguelite Runs and Escalating Threats

Every run challenges players to outwit and outwork a series of distinct bosses, ranging from cunning goblin warlords to massive dragons. Because the available blueprints, spells, and artifacts change with every attempt, players must constantly adapt their strategies.

For veterans looking for a stiffer challenge, the game features customizable “Threat Levels” that ramp up enemy difficulty, requiring flawless micro-management and rapid decision-making.

“The King is Watching has had a wonderful reception on PC, but don’t get too comfortable, console players: we’ve got our eye on you too,” said Semyon Itmaniuk, Head of Hypnohead Studio. “Whether you’re at home on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch… the King will be watching!”

Launch Details

The King is Watching will launch on July 29 for $14.99 USD.

The console version will feature full localization support for English, German, Spanish (EU), Russian, Simplified Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
