Middle-earth is calling upon its heroes once more. Premium physical video game publisher Limited Run Games announced today that the action role-playing classic The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is heading to modern platforms with a dedicated physical release for Xbox.
Pre-orders opened today, October 5, and will run through December 13, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. Fans can secure their copy directly through limitedrungames.com/lotr.
Originally developed by Snowblind Studios and remastered by Aspyr for the Legacy Edition, the 2011 fan-favourite title delivers a darker, grittier take on J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe. Set parallel to Frodo and Samwise’s journey to Mount Doom, the story follows a new Fellowship tasked with defending the North against Agandaûr, a formidable Black Númenórean and servant of Sauron who has amassed a massive army in the ruins of Fornost.
