Tokyo is shrouded in mystery as new otherworldly threats, strange occurrences, and ghostly sightings are taking over the city. Are you prepared to face the unknown and save the day? Xbox players, it’s time to mark your calendars for April 12 as Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Spider’s Thread update is coming to Xbox Series X|S , and Xbox Game Pass.

The Spider’s Thread update is a massive free expansion that brings a slew of additions to the main game, including new areas to explore, extended story cutscenes, quality-of-life improvements, and the all-new Spider’s Thread mode. Whether you’re a returning ghost hunter or a newcomer stepping into the supernatural world of Tokyo, this update is sure to provide a thrilling experience.

The new Spider’s Thread mode, separate from the main game, offers a challenging 30-stage gauntlet assembled from over 130 handcrafted levels. Your goal is simple: reach the end. As you progress, you’ll earn crucial upgrades to become stronger. If you’re defeated, you’ll have to start over but will retain a portion of your upgrades.

In addition to the new mode, the update expands the main story of Ghostwire: Tokyo with new locations to explore, such as the eerie Middle School area, and extended story cutscenes for deeper character interaction and insight into the plot. For those who prefer a less spooky experience, the “Reduced Horror Effects” setting replaces certain psychic effects with adorable SHIIBUYA HACHI stickers.

The update also brings new combat skills like Counter-Attack, Quick Dodging, and Charge Rush, as well as new Tengu Wind and Spiritual Fountain talismans to enhance your arsenal. You’ll need these upgrades as you face new malicious Visitors, including the fast-moving Retribution, invisible Silent Gaze, and high-flying Sanguine Dancer.

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Spider’s Thread update also includes an expanded Photo Mode, allowing you to capture supernatural selfies and overlay stamps on your images. Additionally, you can use in-game Meika to unlock figures at capsule machines scattered throughout Tokyo, which can then be used in Photo Mode.

Ghostwire: Tokyo will be available on Xbox Series X|S with Xbox Game Pass, Windows 10/11 PC with PC Game Pass, and Windows Store through Xbox Play Anywhere on April 12
