Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is a Heartwarming Adventure of one boy and his Yeti developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Riot Forge.

The following is a review by IM Dave Angel, who is joining on the Complete Xbox Team.

“Song of Nunu” is like that cozy jumper you find at the back of your wardrobe—the one that warms your heart and makes you question your loyalties to other jumpers.

Being the Dota 2 fan I am, this League of Legends spinoff had me momentarily doubting my allegiances. It’s a heartwarming tale set in the frosty Freljord, where a boy and his Yeti embark on an adventure that’ll thaw even the iciest of hearts.

First impressions of the game are that it’s aimed at children, with the cute characters and gentle colours, but don’t be fooled! The varying gameplay styles and puzzles lean more towards adults who want a feel-good game that their kids can sit and watch them play.

The Frejlord is split into various sections, but within these sections you will find adventuring, platforming, combat, snowball fights, as well as stealth and bobsleighing sections.  This makes each area a pleasure to explore, taking some time to look for collectibles if you can.

Nunu’s Flute is a part of the over-arching narrative, where you can affect the environment around you by playing certain songs via the shoulder buttons and triggers.   This really makes you step back to think of how you could use the flute to progress further in the story.

Main highlights and takeawys from Song of Nunu: A league of Legends Story feature –

Narrative Magic: The story weaves a spell as enchanting as a poro’s whiskers. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll wonder why you ever doubted the power of a snowball fight.

Visual Bliss: The Freljord comes alive with stunning visuals. It’s like stepping into a snow globe—minus the shaking and glitter everywhere.

Soundtrack to Your Soul: The music hits you like a warm mug of cocoa after a snowball fight. It’s cozy, comforting, and occasionally absolutely epic.

A work of Art: The digital art book is a joy to go through and really captures the feeling of the entire game in only a few stills.

What the game could have improved on –

The platforming gameplay won’t win any gold medals in the Olympics of jumping over gaps. It’s like Nunu’s Yeti trying to ice skate—it gets the job done, but don’t expect triple axles.  But then it is hard to pick holes in a game this good.

The game will require multiple playthroughs to get all the achievements, but I may leave it a while before returning to it.  It’s a bit like “True” by Spandau Ballet… It’s an absolute belter but I feel playing it on repeat gives me the suspicion that mister Hadley would outstay his welcome.

Final Verdict:

“Song of Nunu” isn’t just a game; it’s a fun-sized odyssey that’ll melt your heart faster than a snowflake in summer. Whether you’re a League veteran or a newcomer, grab your Yeti buddy and dive into this frosty adventure. Just remember: when life gives you snow, build a snowman and let the snowballs fly.

P.S. If you’re a Dota fan, you owe it yourself to play this game.  It will give Nunu and Willump a whole new dimension.  If a newcomer, it’s a fantastic game on its own merits.  Highly recommended.
