As soon as I see a card game come to any of my gaming devices then I am straight on it. A mammoth amount of my gaming hours in 2024 were consumed by my personal GOTY Balatro and Infinite Poker on Meta Quest 3. So you could say that I adore anything that includes a traditional deck of playing cards. Super Solitaire has recently launched on the Xbox family of consoles for a reasonable price of just over a fiver.
There is no denying that Solitaire is a classic and is part and parcel of pretty much every Windows PC in existence. Developed by the binary family GmbH and published by Ocean Media, they are seemingly penetrating the console market. The game is currently available as a free to install title on mobile devices with over 100k downloads with an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.
Gameplay
When it comes to the gameplay, I don’t really need to go in depth to explain the rules of Solitaire to you. However if you are new to the game then there is a tutorial to introduce you to how to move your cards and how to stack them during your runs. There are a few game options to choose from when you get started. You can choose from Classic, Daily Challenge, Beat The Devil and Tutorial.
Classic mode is just your standard Solitaire run with no frills. Daily Challenge will give you an objective to achieve your goal and a reason to return to the game each day if you wish. Beat The Devil is more challenging and unforgiving, making runs harder to beat. This makes it more fun for me as you’re more determined to keep playing.
Visuals & Audio
Super Solitaire is pretty basic when it comes to the visuals. Bringing that classic look and feel of the standard green backdrop against your deck of cards. It caters to the most casual of players with a simplistic UI with options to start a new run, undo a move, take a hint or move to the options screen. Sound effects are minimal with the flick of cards and cards being transferred to the upper deck being indicated by chimes. The game could have done with some different aesthetics on deck designs perhaps to give it some different options and customisation.
Final Thoughts
Super Solitaire is a solid entry into the Xbox store and whilst it is available on mobile and also Nintendo Switch, it is nice to sit and play with a controller to hand. The developers have kept things simple here, with the ability to jump on and just play. If you want to extend the fun then there are harder difficulty levels and also daily challenges. But it is just Solitaire at the end of the day and if you’re a fan then you’ll probably love it.
