The Mean Greens – Plastic Warfare is a muliplayer centric PvP third person shooter game where players can either head-to-head online in typical Team Deathmatches or even have two teams shoot themselves while trying to score in a game of table football. Unfortunately, aside from a direction-less tutorial, the game does not have any substantial single player content.
The Mean Greens – Plastic Warfare is a PvP multiplayer game where players can play rounds of either Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch or Free for All. You can either select a map and the game will select a random game mode once the map is loaded or you can choose the map with the game mode you wish to play.
Fans of single player games will be disappointed to know the game is technically devoid of any single player content aside from a barebone tutorial which tasks players to completing set objectives for the tutorial map such as lighting all the candles, capture a flag or push a cup. While it does the basic of how to move and change weapons, it doesn’t go into much details otherwise.
The “Single-player” content is basically doing private matches with bots; problem is the game is inconsistent with them. Meaning that some game modes such as the Capture the Flag matches, you’ll be a lonesome player going back and forth grabbing the “opposing” team’s flag until you win. Same issue as I selected the table football a map nd noticed that the player lists weren’t filling out, so I assumed it would occur when the game loaded, but no; I was the only mean green on the table. So I could score my three goals and win. Thankfully, when doing typical Team Deathmatch or Free for All game modes, the map will be filled with A.I. buddies and enemies.
The big problem with the bots is that the enemy A.I. is all over the place. They’ll either be unrelenting and kill you relentlessly or they’ll ignore you as you freely walk next to them and kill them. The other overall issue is the questionable spawn system. Enemies can spawn sometime right next to you or you can spawn surrounded by enemies giving you little to no chance to react.
Surprisingly, the game features a decent arsenal of weapons. Every character gets a machine gun, sniper rifle, flamethrower, shotgun and rocket launcher. There’s also a grenade which can help you get out of a bind. You can change weapons with either the Y button or the up and d-pad. Once you run out of ammo for a weapon, they all have a cooldown period where afterwards your weapon is refilled. It’s a bit annoying but also adds a layer of challenge.
Overall, the game looks great; very colorful and each map has its own distinct look; no maps are alike. Some of the maps are the most fun and well designed I’ve had the chance to try out. There’s a few smaller maps where it gets dangerous with close corners, unfortunately, the mean greens don’t have any close range attacks. The problem is that it’s always green soldiers vs tan ones and the latter are sometimes harder to spot as they are a bit pale color wise and can be camflouaged involuntarily. The score is pretty cool as it is army-themed and while it’s a serious subject matter, mixed with toys feels like it goes hand in hand.
The Mean Greens – Plastic Warfare is a great game and diversion for fans of the online modes of the Call of Duty games. Either the typical PvP mode such as Capture the Flag or Team Deathmatch or unique twists on PvP such as the Table football map will be a nice diversion from Call of Duty. Unfortunately, the lack of single player is a huge miss here because it could’ve given the single player games aficinados the closest thing to the movie Small Soldiers.
