Over 6,000 fans gathered at the NEC in Birmingham over the weekend for the largest RuneFest in history. The event opened with an orchestral performance by the Manchester Video Game Orchestra alongside beloved developer Mod Ash, setting the stage for a weekend packed with landmark announcements spanning the entire RuneScape franchise.

Headlining RuneFest 2026 was the official announcement of a brand-new, fourth RuneScape MMORPG. Currently early in development, the project brings the world of Gielinor to life in Unreal Engine. Designed to operate alongside existing titles, the standalone experience aims to combine high visual fidelity with the deep, community-driven gameplay that has defined the series for a quarter-century.

We also have a roadmap of what’s to come in RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Xbox too which will entail:

  • Luminance, a brand-new update serving as a prelude to 2027’s Blood Crystal Saga, launches in December this year, and features the introduction of the Elves into RuneScape: Dragonwilds, new elven-themed customisation options for player characters and buildings alike and the Prayer skill.
  • The Blood Crystal Saga kicks off in 2027 starting with the Song of Rebellion in early 2027. These updates will feature iconic enemies like Moss Giants, Kebbits and Implings, the Hunter Skill as well as new areas for players to explore, new quests and gear as well new decorations for houses inspired by the classic RuneScape city of Prifddinas.
  • In addition, the game will have quarterly updates which will include new Skills such as Hunter and Slayer, as well as monthly updates featuring side quests, weapons, decorations and quality of life improvements.
  • Official modding arrives on Dragonwilds in 2027 through a new partnership with CurseForge — complete with dedicated creation tools and an in-game mod browser and installer, available across all platforms including console.

Hopefully we will see the new RuneScape MMO coming to consoles too, given that its latest title Dragonwilds featured for its console debut.
