Xbox Friends and Requests are Coming back

Xbox Insiders will be able to see an upgraded friends and followers experience starting this week, starting with Alpha Skip-Ahead users on Xbox consoles and users who joined the PC Gaming preview on Windows PCs and portable devices! You can start customising your Xbox social experiences with updated relationships, improved privacy and notification options, and the ability to manage them from any device.

Friends and Followers

We are happy to report that friend requests are back! It’s now easier than ever to submit, accept, or remove friend invitations, which facilitates social interaction. You now have greater control and flexibility over your friendships because they are now two-way and invite-only. Following someone, whether it be a player, club, or game, continues to be a one-way link that keeps you informed about their posted information.

The update will take effect immediately and affect current friends and followers. Friendships with those you’ve already been friends with will remain, and you’ll keep following those you haven’t.

On Xbox consoles, press the Xbox button to launch the tutorial, then select the People tab to begin managing your friends and followers. You may locate someone new and extend a friend invitation to them here, view your entire list of friends in the Friends list, and accept (or reject) new friend requests.

From every device you now own, it’s just as simple! You can always be close to your friends, whether it’s through Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, or portable devices.

How to manage your social experience on Xbox

Along with these upgrades, Xbox are also implementing new privacy and notification options so you can control who can follow or friend you on social media and what alerts you get.

By going to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy, then selecting View information & adjust > Friends, followers & clubs to customize your settings, you can choose who can friend you or follow your account directly from your Xbox console. On Xbox consoles, you may also modify your notification choices by going to Settings > choices > Notifications.

By going to Privacy & online safety and logging in, you can also manage your preferences online. You can adjust all of your privacy settings here, and when you’re finished, click Submit.

Go to Manage Xbox online safety and privacy settings to find out more about changing your settings.
