CATTCH is a cute, simplistic platformer where players, as an anthropomorphic animal, will go through various levels to collect a set amount of stars, rescue his friends, and all of this within the time limit. Each level will progressively increase in difficulty by adding additional hazards.

This game is all about platforming; there are no enemies. You need to find and collect the stars, which are more often than not easy to spot and pick up. Our nameless protagonist can also grab onto walls (not climb them) to reach higher (or lower) areas to discover stars and captured friends. To rescue your friends, you need to punch the cages.

As an added twist, some platforms will move around to either be grabbable or they’ll blend with the background and not be accessible. Some jumping and movement need to be timed properly especially if you want to successfully complete levels under the allotted time limit. Other blocks will also be deadly hazards, so you need to move around them carefully, so you don’t die. And interestingly enough, each level has a handful of checkpoints even though the levels aren’t that long.

This simplistic platformer does have a few nuisances. The first being is that sometimes, stars aren’t that easy to see among the decor. Some levels I had to replay a few times in hopes of finding the few elusive stars for completion, but alas no matter how many times I replayed them, never saw my missing stars. The other issue, while the game gets progressively tricky, it remains the same repetitive pattern. Also, the timer seems unnecessary as I’ve finished some levels with the timer at 0:00.

CATTCH looks great; it’s a cutesy, bright, and colorful platformer. The level variety, challenge-wise, is well thought out and feels greatly balanced. Visually speaking, you do need to get through quite a few levels before seeing a different colored environment. The soundtrack is as cute as the game’s visuals, although highly much more forgettable.

If you’re looking for a nice diversion and simpler gaming experience as a palette cleanser, CATTCH is your game. It’s a fun, addictive platformer that will take a few hours to get through. It’s not as deep as other platformers, but sometimes a simple game is a nice change of pace in a land of AAA complex gaming experiences. CATTCH is highly recommended.
